I live in north austin area and I am looking for a kung fu dojo that teaches Lau Family monkey fist?
If not Lau Family monkey fist I am looking for someone that teaches some sort of monkey boxing I have MMA training in muay thai, krav maga, and grappling. With that in mind im just looking for something to progress in and master instead of being a jack of all trades and master of none. Now if I have to learn something else im all for it but I am still looking for something to master
Looking for a kung fu dojo in north austin area in texas?
I wish I could help more, but all I could offer is for you to find someone to teach Lau Gar/Lau Ga. This is the Chinese term for Lau family martial arts. Monkey Fist could potentially be a form, although it is not one in which I am familiar.
Also, you could try to find a school that teaches Hung Gar/Hung Ga. In the school that I attend, we first learn three Lau Gar forms before we are taught Hung Gar, as Lau Gar has many of Hung Gar fundamentals.
If you do a search for "Lau Gar" or even "Hung Gar", you may find what you seek. As a side note, "dojo" is a Japanese term for a Japanese school (or Okinawan, or possibly Korean), so you may want to exclude that from any of your searches.
Good luck to you. I admire the fact you wish to become a master of a single discipline rather than a jack of all trades and master of none.
Reply:Based on your interest in Lau Gar, I figured you would like Hung Gar! Thanks for the best answer, but more importantly, good luck to you in finding a school to call home.
If I hear of anything in your area, I'll let you know. Report It
